GGL

I only recently stumbled across the website gglange.org. There, I discovered many colleagues and quite a few lecturers whom I had the pleasure of getting to know at the U5 Academy and the Munich Typographic Society (tgm).

As a student, I had the honour of experiencing GGL at U5 – including as a mentor, who was never too good to give advice or express a clear opinion. Today, this seems almost strange to young people – but for me, at that time, it was necessary, essential. Inspiring.

I owe my career “in the trade” in large part to GGL, as well as my attitude to professional and political issues. Or to be precise, and I think that’s what I want to say: holding your own opinion. And also causing a stir with it. Taking responsibility for it. In a manner that is professionally unassailable, personally straightforward. Yet still humane. Full stop.
