Günter Gerhard Lange: “Vom Blei zum Licht“ (From Lead to Light)

This speech was given by Günter Gerhard Lange, in his function as Artistic Director of Berthold AG, on the occasion of the presentation of the diatype-phototypesetting equipment to the Deutsches Museum in Munich on 8th March, 1971.

After encouraging his listeners to approach innovations positively and with an open mind, he shows the new advantages and possibilities of diatype filmsetting.

“(…) Distance – distance from tradition, from technology, from prejudice, that’s actually is what we need. We are always burdened down by what we know. We are permanently preoccupied with what we are doing and always slightly suspicious towards new things coming our way, things which can help us reach new goals, but might make it necessary to re-think and remind us: don’t stop, don’t stagnate! (…)”
