Günter Gerhard Lange: “Die Inszenierung einer Botschaft in der Fläche“ (“The Staging of a Message on the Surface”)

In October 1996 the second FontShop conference TypoBerlin takes place under the motto Idea vs. Ideology. Here, Günter Gerhard Lange gives his legendary lecture “The Staging of a Message on the Surface”. He embarks on a historic journey from the Roman Capitalis to David Carson and Neville Brody. He does this in his usual outspoken language which was cause for his nickname “Gutenberg’s Machine gun.”

A recording of this lecture was published in 1998 on the occasion of the 3rd TypoBerlin.

“(…) My bet is on the gifted, willing outsider, saying, “I don’t know anything, but I want something. Similar to Picasso, who said: “I’m not searching, I am finding. (…)”
